BRIGHT NEW BLONDE

Dumping a fresh coat of bleach on her tresses, Ashlee Simpson exits the Andy LeCompte salon in Los Angeles on January 24 with a brightened pixie cut. Ash made her way to and from the salon in a fun mustard striped top (add a twist to the classic cut with Gold Hawk's asymmetrical Stripe Bow Top in Taupe) with 7 For All Mankind's Gwenevere jeggings – get yourself a similar shade on CoutureCandy, try 7 For All Mankind's Gwenevere in Dusty Newsprint. Ashlee strutted in a pair of classic black oxfords (love Farylrobin's femme version of the Gladys Mary Jane Flat in Black) with a red patent bag over her shoulder (try Julie K Handbags' Renee in Red). Ashlee added a playful chain bracelet and petite charm necklace (like Danielle Stevens' Good Luck Necklace in Gold), carrying a few shopping bags as she made her way about the day. What do you think of Ashlee's brightened new 'do, is the bleached blonde look a refreshing new spin for her or is it too artificial? Ash isn't the only one switching things up in the Wentz household – her husband Pete also recently decided to retire his straightener after years of making the super straight, slicked down emo cut his trademark look. He explained his inspiration to go au naturale: “My son, he’s got this full head of awesome curly hair, and when he gets out of the bath he’s so stoked. I want to get out of the shower and just be stoked, not think about how I don’t want water to touch my hair. The amount of maintenance that went into my straight hair was ridiculous.” I barely recognize Pete with his crazy untamed curls. What do you think of his new look?

TAKING ON A SERIOUS ROLE

Going glam overseas, Diane Kruger polishes her look in a lustrous metallic frock at the Vogue Paris Dinner on January 25 at Hotel de la Rouchefoucauld Doudeaville in Paris, France. Di paid tribute to the designer of the night, wearing a Gucci gold accented gunmetal gown with a sexy low back halter (add some shine with Hale Bob's Banded V Neck Mini in Silver or Walter's Metallic Stitched Georgette Mini in Grey) paired with simple strappy heels (carry the metallic theme with Coye Nokes' Grace D'Orsay in Gold) and a gold framed black clutch (keep it chic with Julie K Handbags' Jessica Bag in Black). Diane swept her hair back in a chic chignon twist, accenting her look with smoky eyes and a subtle tan – perhaps a reminder of her trip to Mexico with beau Joshua Jackson earlier this month? What are your thoughts on Di's metal accented frock, does it work for her? I'm not crazy about how the top of the bodice fits, but I do like that for a shiny dress this isn't over the top with bling. Thoughts? Diane arrived in Paris in time to catch the Chanel Haute Couture show the day before, rubbing shoulders with Kirsten Dunst in the front row. While we know her best as a model and fashionista, Di recently chatted with Gotham magazine about a very serious role she will portray in the upcoming film Special Forces, playing a kidnapped journalist that involved filming in a remote location in the Himalayas: "I researched the role for four months, interviewing journalists who were kidnap victims, and I think it's changed me as a person… It's as though I felt quite ignorant before this, or maybe it's just part of growing up. I always thought I had a pretty accomplished life: a famous model who speaks three languages and keeps a place in Paris. This role has certainly put me in my place a little bit." She continued about living on set: "It was a lot harder than I anticipated… Eighteen-hour car rides, dirt roads that are not really roads, freezing cold at night, everyone is sleep deprived, and everything is incredibly difficult and hard. I've broken down crying sometimes, but so have many of the boys. It was also truly breathtaking - a once-in-a-lifetime experience." It definitely sounds so – can't wait to see the movie later this year!

HAPPY TO BE BACK

Looking ecstatic to be reunited with her man, Kirsten Dunst is greeted by Rilo Kiley drummer Jason Boesel after landing at LAX in Los Angeles on January 27. Kiki was returning from a brief trip to Paris, where she took in the Chanel Haute Couture show from a front row seat. I have to give her credit that for once, even after an international flight, Kirsten has managed to look cute and casual without looking like a slob. What a feat! Kiki put her look together with a bordeaux textured blazer (like HellOh's Crinkled Jacket in Red) over a grey tank (give it a more fashion forward feel with Joes Jeans' Racer Tank in Smoke Grey) and indigo skinnies (check out Chasely's Denim Legging in Overdye Blue), wearing a pair of comfy black flats (try a sturdy sole like Palladium's Pallabrouse Boot in Black/Vapor for your next airport trek) as she towed her luggage out of the terminal. What do you think of Kirsten's casual look, do you like that she's adding a little color with her blazer? All I have to say is that Kirsten must be very into her man to step off the plane looking so fresh faced! While Kiki spends a lot of time in LA, you can bet she's going straight to her man's place here – but before you jump to dirty conclusions, it's not what you think! Kirsten recently revealed in an interview that she's in between dwellings in Los Angeles, explaining: “I live at my mom’s right now. I don’t have a house in LA any more. It’s great. I live there and go out to my favorite Valley spots like Hugo’s Tacos, Artisan Cheese Gallery. Oh, it’s so good there!” Sounds like she's a little too comfy with this arrangement! Have any of you made the move back home in light of the current economy?

CROP TOP IS BACK

Stepping out in a fun, playful look, Anne Hathaway attends a screening of her new animated film Rio on January 28 in Los Angeles at 20th Century Fox Studio's Zanuck Theatre. Anne put her whimsical look together beginning with a striped Marni cropped sweater (check out Ella Moss' Nikita Sparkle Sweater in Black) with a pair of wide leg spotted pants with ruffles draping down the side seams (tone it down with Rich & Skinny's Silk Cargo Pant in Black). Anne stood tall in brown and tan stacked Casadei wedges (opt for Farylrobin's Iris Platform Wedge in Bronze), completing the look with a gold statement necklace (try Robyn Rhodes' Rita Necklace in Gold). There's a lot going on here, but I think for a youthful occasion, this is definitely a look to play with and I'm glad she at least tried it. What are your thoughts? I'd love the rip off the ruffles on the sides of the pants, they're only making her look wider. I do like the contrasting prints and the mix of brown and black together – nicely done, but do you think it works? It's definitely been quite a week for taking fashion risks – between this and Olivia Wilde's jewel toned harem look in Paris, who do you think is pulling off these high end looks better?

Halle Berry to fight for custody of daughter

(PEOPLE) -- Halle Berry says she's preparing to go to court with her ex Gabriel Aubry over custody of their 2 1/2-year-old daughter Nahla.

"Halle has serious concerns for her daughter's well-being while in the care of her father for any extended period of time and is prepared to take all necessary steps to protect her," the actress's rep tells PEOPLE.

To clear her schedule for custody litigation, Berry, 44, pulled out of the film "New Year's Eve," set to start filming this week in New York. She's being replaced by Katherine Heigl.

"She has attempted to resolve these custody issues amicably with her daughter's father, Gabriel Aubry, directly, but given his lack of cooperation, Halle has no choice but to seek swift judicial intervention," her rep says.

Aubrey, 35, filed court papers December 30 seeking to be formally recognized as Nahla's father and to establish that he'll share custody. The couple split last April.

There was no word on what prompted the custody dispute.

Berry's rep says, "Halle has always made the needs and safety of her daughter her first priority and, both while Halle and Gabriel were a couple and since their break-up, Halle has only acted in her daughter's best interest."
