Raven-Symone, 25, takes on a more mature role in the new ABC Family comedy series "State of Georgia" but even she still often sees herself as the little girl from "The Cosby Show.""State of Georgia" which premieres on Wednesday, June 29 at 8:30 p.m. ET. Raven-Symone, who has been acting since she was 2, plays a young adult named Georgia who moves from the southern state to New York with her best friend Jo, a scientist played by "Roswell" actress Majandra Delfino, to pursue her dream of becoming an actress.
"We had a scene in one of these episodes and I had to be like making out with this guy on the couch and I got up and I was like, 'I can't do it.'" Raven-Symone told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith. "They were like, 'Why?' I'm like, 'I'm Olivia, I can't do it. I'm like 7.' They're like, 'Uh, no, you're 25.' 'No, I'm 7.'"
"I think that the way Jo and Georgia work together, we still have moments of 15-year-olds. But I think at this age, that's how we are anyway," the actress said. "You never have to forget your childhood."
Raven-Symone played Bill Cosby's character's step-granddaughter Olivia on "The Cosby Show" between 1989 and 1992. She also starred in the Disney Channel comedy series "That's So Raven," which ran between 2003 and 2007. Her title character has kissed a boy on the show.
Raven-Symone told Wendy Williams on her talk show last year that she had her actual first smooch when she was a freshman in high school. Raven-Symone had her first on-screen kiss in the 2003 Disney Channel movie "Cheetah Girls" when she was 16, director Oz Scott told Ebony magazine in 2007, adding: "You could tell she was driven, extremely professional, but she was still a kid."
Loretta Devine from ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" also stars in "State of Georgia" as Aunt Honey, "Georgia's sexy, southern aunt," according to ABC Family. She allows the girls to rent part of her apartment and shares with them advice about life and the city, as well stories of her many ex-husbands.
On the premiere of "State of Georgia," Raven-Symone's character is told by a casting director for a revival of the musical "Damn Yankees" that she will never be a star because of her weight, according to the New York Times. The actress has herself actually slimmed down in the past year and has said she doesn't like the way people stare at her after she dropped the weight.
Raven-Symone is also a singer. She told OnTheRedCarpet.com in January that she is working on her fifth album.
