Michael Jackson fans are fuming over an upcoming Discovery Channel special that features a re-enactment of the late King of Pop's autopsy. Now, they've launched an online petition to try to stop the documentary from airing.
"Based on the autopsy’s report and court documents, the film will show a reproduction of the body of the star in every detail," the petition says of "Michael Jackson's Autopsy: What Really Killed Michael Jackson," set to air in the U.K. on January 13.
The group is urging fans of Jackson – who died of a drug overdose at age 50 in 2009 - to voice their complaints to the Discovery Channel, claiming that "[t]he documentary aims to follow a doctor who will dissect the body and reveal the true reasons for his death by spreading rumors about his addiction or his skin condition."
The petition continues, "Like any other human being on this earth, Michael Jackson is entitled to a minimum of decency and respect," and asks "the directors of the Discovery Channel programming to proceed with the outright cancellation of this indecent documentary, detrimental to both the person and his family and loved ones."
The network has confirmed to CNN that the special will air in the U.K. only on January 13, and that Discovery currently has no plans to air the special in the U.S. A spokeswoman for Discovery told CNN that she has seen the petition, but could not confirm if the network has received any petitions or how many, and declined to comment on the petition beyond that.
