Chris Rock joins the long list of comedians hitting the Broadway stage. The actor will make his debut on The Great White Way in the Stephen Adly Gurigis play "The Mother (expletive) with the Hat."Rock tells the Associated Press the show is like "'The Honeymooners' with drugs." The show is set to open in previews on March 15 and officially open on April 11 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater.
The show tells the story of a newly-sober parolee, played by Bobby Cannavale, and his girlfriend, who is still addicted to drugs and alcohol. Of his role, Rock tells USA Today, "I'm like his drug counselor. In 'New Jack City,' I was the crackhead; now I'm rehabilitated."
He adds, "A lot of the play is about relationships, and, yeah, I'm writing some jokes on my script," he says. But he's not sure when or in what context he'll use them."
Other Broadway bound include Dane Cook and Julia Stiles in "Fat Pig," John Leguizamo in "Ghetto Klown" and Daniel Radcliffe in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."
The comedian, who starred in the summer hit "Grown Ups" with fellow "Saturday Night Live" alum Adam Sandler, says he might have to take a break from the silver screen for a while.
"I've pretty much suspended all other operations. I'm waiting for some scripts to come in. And I wouldn't mind dabbling in some stand-up this summer, after the play's over -- seeing if I still have a fastball, as they say."
