Kate Gosselin ordered to pay $10K to marriage therapist

Kate Gosselin has been ordered to pay more than $10,000 to a Pennsylvania marriage therapist named Sylvia Lafair, who says the reality star owes her money for counseling services given to her and then-husband Jon.

Gosselin, 36, rose to fame with the reality show "Jon & Kate Plus 8," which featured the couple and their sextuplets and twins. The show was canceled in 2009 following the pair's divorce that December and spurred a spinoff series, "Kate Plus 8," which stars Gosselin and her children.

Pennsylvania therapist Sylvia Lafair, 71, says Gosselin had a verbal deal with her, under which she would fly to Los Angeles to counsel the reality star and Jon in March 2009, before their divorce. Lafair said Gosselin ultimately refused to pay for services and travel fees.

A judge recently ruled in Lafair's favor and ordered Gosselin to pay her $10,476, local newspaper the Standard Speaker reported.

Gosselin's attorney has appealed the decision, the newspaper said, adding that the reality star says she never entered into an agreement with Lafair, that the therapist was asked to counsel Jon alone and that she had at the time hired her own private counselor.

Kate Gosselin's ex-husband has not commented.
