Maggie Gyllenhaal has been exploring the subject of female orgasms in a new Discovery channel series, as well as in the upcoming comedy following the invention of the vibrator entitled, "Hysteria."
The film is slated to premiere at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival in September and stars Hugh Dancy as a young doctor hired to aid the leading doctor in women's medicine in "stimulating the nervous system" of his female patients.
The film also stars Rupert Everett, Jonathan Pryce and Felicity Jones.
Gyllenhaal rose to fame after appearing in the sadomasochistic romance "Secretary," which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. She has since appeared in films like "Sherrybaby," "World Trade Center," "The Dark Knight" and "Crazy Heart."
On Sunday, Gyllenhaal narrated an episode on the topic of female sexuality for the Discovery Channel's new series "Curiosity." For the show, the actress visited a research lab where scientists study brain activity during a female orgasm.
The actress' brother Jake Gyllenhaal also recently appeared on the Discovery Channel, in the series "Man Vs. Wild." In a July episode, the actor joined host Bear Grylls on a trek to Iceland where he was forced to eat a worm for sustenance.
Gyllenhaal married actor Peter Sarsgaard in 2009. The couple welcomed their daughter Ramona in 2006, shortly after announcing their engagement.
