DJ Qualls of 'Road Trip' Tweets about being 'beaten' by Vancouver cop

Actor DJ Qualls, who appears on "Memphis Beat" but is likely best known for his role in "Road Trip," took to his official Twitter account on Saturday to tell his followers that he allegedly was beaten by a Vancouver police officer on Friday, September 23.

"Before it hit the news, just got out of the ER, Was beaten by a Vancouver Police Officer for no reason. Got stitches and released," Qualls wrote on Saturday. "Was not arrested b/c was innocent. I was handcuffed and bleeding while the cop kept saying to me, 'you think youre [expletive] better than me?'"

Qualls then added, "Rpeatedly [sic] asked 4 his badge number and he said if I didnt shut up, Id be taken in. Finally got a card as I was taken to hospital."

The actor went on to explain the incident began when he witnessed a fight while out in Vancouver, where "Supernatural" shoots. He has an upcoming role in the series. He allegedly saw a woman get hit by a man. A group of people were detained, including Qualls. The actor said he tried to tell the officer which one of the men hit the woman but the officer threatened him and then tackled him.

"He said if I didnt get out of there, he's [sic] arrest me, I asked why and he tackled me, busted my face and handcuffed me. Then Taunted me for 1/2hr b4 the ambulance came. I was held, no calls, no attorney. AND I had to pay an $800 ER bill," he wrote.

The actor was not charged with anything, according to the Vancouver Sun, and the police are investigating the incident. A representative of the force told the newspaper on September 24, "Despite not hearing from him we've proactively started an investigation."

However, on Sunday, September 25, Qualls said he made a formal complaint with the Vancouver Police Department about the incident.

"I cannot condone bashing @VancouverPD. Ive met with reps from the Professional Standards unit and they are helping me make a formal complaint. So far, they have been helpful and supportive and we all look forward to a resolution of the situation," he wrote. "I would like to add that the events of Friday night in no way shape or inform my opinions of Vancouver or Canada as a whole. I feel fortunate I get to work here."

Since his appearance in the 2000 comedy "Road Trip," Qualls has appeared in "Hustle & Flow," "Scrubs," "Breaking Bad," "My Name Is Earl" and "Memphis Beat," where he played a police officer.

In the upcoming season of "Supernatural" the actor plays a laid-back hunter named Garth. Qualls wrote that the producers of the CW series were understanding of his situation. "Want to publicly thank the producers of 'Supernatural.' Couldnt be more supportive & cool about a busted up face. Look forward to work Mon," Qualls said.

In May, Qualls' "Road Trip" love interest, actress Mia Amber Davis, died at the age of 36 from complications from a routine surgery on her knee.
