Don Johnson said he watched porn to prepare for 'Bucky Larson'

Don Johnson said he did some "research" in order to play Nick Swardson's porn manager in "Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star" and found the pornographic movies to be a bit unrealistic, compared to the comedy.

"I caught a clip or two before one of my kids came into the room and I quickly changed the channel, 'Daddy, what are you watching?' 'Uh... it's research, I swear!'" Johnson joked in an interview provided by Columbia Pictures. "They were really lavish and out there. They were more glamorous...glamorous, that's a taste thing, but it was amazing. Ours, I think were more accurate than theirs."

In the film, Swardson stars as Bucky Larson, a young man who moved from the Midwest to Hollywood in order to follow in his parent's footsteps and become a porn star. Johnson plays porn producer Miles Deep, who takes him under his wing.

"Nick is a joy," Johnson said of the film's star and co-writer. "He's like my brother from another mother. He's funny and intelligent, funny, did I mention funny?"

Johnson is best known for playing James "Sonny Crockett" in the 1980s series "Miami Vice," much to the delight of Swardson, who said he loved hearing Johnson's stories about the cop series.

"Working with Don Johnson was so epic, I could not get enough 'Miami Vice' stories," Swardson said in an interview. "That's all I want out of life, is just to hear 'Miami Vice' stories. When I die, if I ever do, I want to come back as the city of Miami, just so I can watch 'Miami Vice' being filmed and all the stuff that went on behind the scenes."

Johnson also starred as the title character in the 90s cop series, "Nash Bridges." He has also released two albums, "Heartbeat" and "Let It Roll."

"Comedy is hard," Johnson continued. "When you get into those types of situations, where people are talking to you that are that way (points at camera) and people that are watching it that are this way (points at self) and you have to shoot all the people at the table and get all of their reactions and make it fresh and funny each time, that's hard."

Johnson recently portrayed Danny McBride's father on the HBO series, "Eastbound and Down." The actor has been married five times to four women. He was married to actress Melanie Griffith twice, they started dating when she was 14-years-old and he was 22. He was also romantically linked to Barbra Streisand and reportedly wrote his song "Till I Loved You" about the singer.
