Jack Nicholson's Hollywood Hills property went up in flames on Friday evening.Though the Oscar-winner hasn't lived in the house since 1975, it was being rented out to the actor's "Two Jakes" co-star William Tynan, reports E! Online. Tynan was reportedly sleeping when he awoke to the smell of smoke and thought the actor escaped the burning home with no injuries, he lost all of his belongings in the fire.
According to OnTheRedCarpet.com's parent company KABC, 85 firefighters were called to the scene at 8 p.m. and had put out the flames by 9:30 p.m. PT. Two firefighters were brought to the hospital after suffering heat exhaustion.
The home was burned to the ground, but firefighters kept it from spreading to nearby homes. The firefighters told KABC that the occupant believed chemicals in the garage might have started the fire.
According to E! Online, Nicholson welcomed Tynan, who has been his close friend for over 30-years, to stay with him while recovering from the loss.
Nicholson is known for films such as "The Shining" and "Chinatown," and won Oscars for his role in the movies "As Good As It Gets," "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" and "Terms of Endearment."
In April, the actor reportedly put his Malibu home on the market for $4.25 million ( See photos of the property).
Nicholson also owns a house on the famed Mulholland Drive, as well as homes elsewhere in the Hollywood Hills and in Hawaii, Venice, California and Aspen, Colorado, according to the Real Estalker blog, which tracks celebrity property sales.
