Reese Witherspoon not pressing charges over car accident, report says

Reese Witherspoon is reportedly not pressing charges against the 84-year-old driver who hit her during a jog on Wednesday, September 7, in Santa Monica, California.

Witherspoon's rep told People magazine that the actress is looking forward to moving on from the accident.

According to the Wallstreet Journal, the driver will be forced to take a driving test to ensure driving safety in the future.

The actress was jogging within an unmarked crosswalk at the time she was hit and suffered minor injuries. She was later transported by an ambulance to a local hospital and released. The driver of the vehicle that struck Witherspoon was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a cross walk, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

Witherspoon's spokesperson said in a statement to OnTheRedCarpet.com the actress "was not seriously injured and is resting comfortably at home."

In March, the actress, 35, married entertainment agent Jim Toth, 40, in a private ceremony at her ranch estate in Ojai, California.

The couple became engaged in December after dating for about a year. This marks the second marriage for the actress, who was married to Phillippe, 36, between 1999 and 2008. She has two children from her first marriage, daughter Ava, 11 and son Deacon, 7.

Witherspoon and Toth were first linked together in January, not long after she and actor Jake Gyllenhaal confirmed they had broken up after dating for about three years. Witherspoon and Toth fended off engagement rumors in October.

Witherspoon is known for movies such as "Legally Blonde" and won an Oscar for the 2005 film "Walk the Line." She recently appeared in "Water for Elephants" with "Twilight" actor Robert Pattinson and filmed "This Means War" with Chris Pine and E! talk show host Chelsea Handler.
