Kate Middleton turns down Vogue magazine photo shoot, report says

Kate Middleton's fashion forward style landed her a spot on Vanity Fair's Best Dressed List, but the royal reportedly turned down an opportunity to appear in Vogue magazine.

A palace aide told E! News that both the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William felt it was a bad idea for Kate to be seen as a fashion plate and Queen Elizabeth is said to agree.

"But both William and Kate feel it would be wrong for Kate to promote herself as a fashion or style icon," a palace aide told E! News. "That's not what they are about and they take their royal duties far too seriously to, in one sense, trivialize them."

Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour reportedly had Middleton's engagement photographer Mario Testino in mind to shoot the editorial, a strategic move that would have theoretically put the Duchess at ease.

But it might be a long wait for Kate's Vogue cover, since the newlywed has to mind her manners now that she's in the spotlight, especially for Queen Elizabeth's sake.

"Kate is keenly conscious that while her new grandmother-in-law may not chide her for appearing on a Vogue cover," the aide continued. "But she would definitely not be amused, and Her Majesty is a real genius at making people squirm with simply a look or a 'tut, tut.'"

The Duchess of Cambridge has been known as a trendsetter since before her major royal wedding in April. Her choice to mix of high and low fashion earned her a spot on Vanity Fair's 2011 International Best Dressed List. She had appeared once before, in 2008. "To be brutally honest, a request to sit down with The Times, the BBC or one of the major American networks to discuss the monarchy in general is one thing," the palace insider continued. "For Kate to be photographed draped in the latest creation of a couture house to, knowingly or otherwise, self-promote her status as some sort of fashion horse is something quite different."

Those looking for their Middleton fashion fix might have to turn to Kate's younger sister Pippa Middleton, who recently attended London Fashion Week. Pippa's appearance at her sister's wedding earned her the unofficial title of "Her Royal Hotness" and a website dedicated to her derriere.
