Richard Simmons is "completely healthy," his spokesperson says in response to recent concerns and online comments by fans about the fitness star, who appeared thinner than in the past during an appearance on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars."
On Monday's episode, the 63-year-old was seen in a pretaped "Rocky"-themed skit with contestant Chaz Bono and his partner Lacey Schwimmer.
Many Twitter users wrote during and after the episode aired that Simmons appeared unwell.
"OMG. Richard Simmons must be ill," Twitter user Barbara Eiden Molinaro said as the show aired. "His hair is so thin you can see through it. He looks emaciated."
Simmons' spokesperson told People magazine that Simmons is currently " at the weight he was when we launched the original 'Sweatin' to the Oldies.'"
"He is completely healthy, happy and fit as a fiddle," he added. "He's happy. Everything with him could not be better."
Simmons' fitness videos made him famous in the 1980s and he currently works as a dance and exercise instructor in Los Angeles. He has made surprise appearances on "Dancing With The Stars" in the past and has also had cameos on other shows.
"Still can't believe I got to hang with Richard Simmons yesterday!" Schwimmer Tweeted on October 8, alongside a photo of herself posing with the fitness star in the boxing ring.
The nine remaining celebrity pairs return on Tuesday, October 11 for an elimination episode of "Dancing With The Stars," in which a fourth couple is expected to be sent packing.
