Michael Jordan Turns 48 Today, Still Believes He Could Take On Any Player In The NBA One-On-One
Today, Michael Jordan turns 48 years old. For those of us that grew up watching Jordan play that makes us feel really old.
No word on what Jordan will do to celebrate his birthday, but if you are familiar with his exploits you have believe that there will be some gambling, cigars and golf involved in some way.
It's been seven years since Jordan last played in an NBA game, and the association has never been the same. Actually, the league hasn't been the same since he retired from the Bulls for the second time in 1998.
That was the perfect moment for him to go out on. He had just nailed a game-winning jumper over Byron Russell of the Utah Jazz to give the Bulls their sixth NBA Championship in eight years. Whether you think he pushed off or not is immaterial. Everything came together in that moment. The greatest basketball player of all-time hit a game-winning, championship-winning shot and he retired in January, 1999.
He came back for the Wizards in 2001, and played two seasons with them, but it wasn't the same.
The NBA has been trying to create another player to be "The next Jordan" ever since he retired, but there will never be another player like him. There was nothing that he couldn't do on the court. Off the court, he created a global empire with his Air Jordan brand.
No basketball player will ever be able to touch Jordan in terms of impact on- and off-the court.
Happy Birthday, MJ. I hated you when you were playing, but as time has gone on I have grown to appreciate what you meant to the game of basketball.
